Fujifilm Superia Premium 400 - The Last Surviving Superia
The Superia family once included films ranging from 100 to 1600, today Superia Premium 400 is one of the last surviving links to Fujifilm’s legendary era of consumer color negative film. Developed specifically for Fujifilm's home market in Japan and introduced around 2009, Superia Premium 400 was uniquely situated above the more globally available Superia X-TRA 400 until its discontinuation in 2024. Fujifilm gave Superia Premium wider exposure latitude, fine grain and color reproduction specifically tuned for Japanese skin tones, making it a rare emulsion created for a particular regional market.
The result is a distinctly Fujifilm interpretation of color: crisp, saturated greens, rich reds, clean blues, and natural looking skin tones without sacrificing the vibrant character that made Superia recognizable. It has considerable latitude for a “consumer” 400 speed film so I’ve profiled this film at box speed, +1 and +2 exposures.
Despite Fujifilm continuing to reduce its lineup, Superia Premium 400 has remained. A film intended primarily for Japan and now the final surviving member of the Superia family. Our Superia Premium 400 Lightroom Profile is designed to preserve the distinctive character of this increasingly rare Japanese film while maintaining the flexibility of digital RAW files.

HOW TO USE
Adjust your white balance and exposure as needed, aim for good skin tone and or clean white
Choose your film stock by applying the preset - Portra, Gold, 400H ect. This loads the appropriate Profile, compresses dynamic range, removes digital sharpening and applies film grain in one click
In the Film Tools presets mouse over and pick the contrast you like. The default is neutral, the included Film Tools can take your image from crunchy to airy.
Try more or less Color Density or raise the Vibrance slider to protect skin tones
Add Warmth or any of the 11 included Color Grading presets, adjust amount slider if needed
Shoot more, repeat at step 1.
Unlike most profiles built with Lightroom’s native tools, these were created through a custom process, sampling hundreds of colors across a wide range of lighting conditions and exposure values. I worked with multiple professional labs to test scans from real film before settling on one that delivered the perfect balance of contrast, color accuracy, and minimal color cast. The goal was simple: to capture the soul of each film stock while keeping the profiles consistent, and easy to use. After testing nearly every preset and profile pack out there, I can confidently say these are some of the most versatile, true to film emulations available today.
These profiles are designed for use in Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and Camera RAW and are compatible with RAW images only.
